How to apply Gel Polish / Gel Lacquer: step-by-step plan (+ creating nail art)

Applying gel polish, gel nail polish or gel polish may seem a bit difficult at first, but it isn't. Far from it. It's a typical case of practice makes perfect. The more you do it, the better you'll get at it. So you really need to sit down and get comfortable. Especially if you're also planning on doing nail art. With this step-by-step plan you can quickly and easily apply your Gel Polish yourself in 5 easy steps:

Step 1: Prepare

Applying gel polish always starts with preparing your nails. Push back your cuticles, file your nails in the desired shape and clean them thoroughly and free of grease. Don't forget the edges!

Step 2: Apply primer/base coat

Apply a thin layer of primer or base coat to the nail with a small brush or brush. Keep a minimum distance of 1 mm from your cuticles and make sure you do not touch your skin.

Step 3: Drying

Dry your nails for 60 seconds under the LED lamp or 120 seconds under a UV lamp to harden the coating.

Step 4: Apply gel polish

Now apply the gel polish in the desired color. Start with a first layer and cure it for 60 seconds under the LED lamp. Repeat this step until the color is fully opaque and again keep a distance from your cuticles and skin. Tip: Do you want to make nail art? After curing the base color, you can make patterns with other colors. After each color or element of your nail art, cure your nails first under the lamp before continuing. This prevents it from running out or running together (unless you want that of course).

Step 5: Apply topcoat

Finished with your nails? Then apply the top coat to ensure that you can enjoy your creation for weeks to come. Cure this under the lamp again, then remove the sticky layer with a nail cleaner and you're done!
