How to remove gel polish
With gel polish you have beautiful, strong nails that you can enjoy for weeks. But sometimes you accidentally break off a piece, you get tired of the color or you have too much growth after a while.
Then of course you want to remove the gel polish yourself. And we are happy to help you with that!
Removing Gel Polish
Removing gel nail polish, gel lacquer or gel polish is unfortunately not as easy as removing normal nail polish. It is a bit of a job. Not difficult, mind you. But you do have to sit down for it.
First you need to file the nail polish, preferably with a 180 grit nail file. Be careful and only try to file the gel layer off your nail. You don't want to damage your natural nails.
Then soak some cotton pads or balls in nail polish remover with or without acetone and hold it on your nails.
Small tip: it goes faster with acetone and if you wrap your finger (including cotton wool) in some aluminum foil. This way you can do multiple fingers at the same time. After ten to fifteen minutes, remove the foil and you have soaked the gel polish loose. You can now easily remove it with a gel polish scraper . If not, soak your nails a little longer in the acetone or take a hokkepootje to carefully pry loose the last bit.
Aftercare
Removing gel polish with acetone is of course not very good for your nails. In order to keep your nails (and fingers!) healthy, it is important to take good care of them. So gently rub some oil, hand cream or gel into your hands and let them rest for a few minutes. This way, your nails will not dry out and will stay hydrated for longer. You will be ready to apply a new gel polish in no time!
